VIDALIA — Miss-Lou residents displayed their faith through a walk held Saturday at the Vidalia Riverfront.
Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia hosted their first Faith Walk in an effort to ease negativity throughout the region, organizers said.
Although the walk was originally attended for the youth of Calvary Baptist Church, organizer Katherine Mize decided it would best fit the needs of the entire community.
“There is so much negativity going on and they need something positive to look at,” Mize said. “Our youth need something substantial to look up to. And if we got Christian people doing what they are supposed to be doing that makes it even more better.”
Mize said the walk was about bringing everybody together and doing something bigger than the little things an individual would normally do.
“The whole point is for us to go out and be that light for Christ,” Mize said.
Mize brought her son, Joshua Mize, 7, and daughters, Hannah, 13, and Karlee Mize, 11, to the walk so they could express their faith.
“God is a powerful man,” Hannah said. “He loves everybody and this faith walk is a good way to help us show that.”
Hannah said she and her peers hope to encourage people to not only get the proper exercise, but to be active in their faith.
“When I’m at school I express my faith by letting my light shine and be an example for Christ,” Hannah said.
When Karlee took her walk, she said her goal was to get fit and healthy — while also incorporating God into her routine.
Having God walk by your side helps people accomplish road blocks that might be in there way, Karlee said.
During Karlee’s walks, she prayed that she would day be able to do mission work and help spread the gospel in places that could use a little more light.
“I want to go to Hawaii and build more churches and help spread Christianity,” Karlee said.
Jennifer Freeman said she was proud to see the youth of the church show that concern for individuals, but the world could use a lot of saving.
“I think we need to pray for some revival in this area and across the country,” Jennifer said. “The world is more against religion than for religion. And if this walk helps improve that scenario, then I’m glad to do what I can.”
