PLEASANT HILL — With a 30-point lead in the third quarter, Sicily Island coach Curtis Shavers said the Tigers’ Tyreke Tolliver was walking toward the bench before a Pleasant Hill player shoved him causing chaos to ensue.
Shavers restrained Tolliver, and fans rushed the floor, as an all-out brawl broke out.
“I guess Pleasant Hill started to get frustrated, and that player pushed Tyreke after they were scrambling for a loose ball that went out of bounds,” Shavers said. “Their coach wanted to call the game for safety reasons, and I didn’t get a chance to talk to the officials after the game.”
Officials decided to end the game, giving Sicily Island the 58-28 win against Pleasant Hill. The forfeit win advanced Sicily Island in the LHSAA Class C quarterfinals Friday, where the Tigers will meet No. 1 seed Atlanta. Tipoff time has yet to be determined.
As for the Tigers’ regional win, Shavers said Henry Higgs hit three big 3-pointers in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 23-6 advantage going into the second period. Then, the Tigers leading scorer Larry Plummer started to catch his rhythm.
“Larry actually started off slow tonight,” Shavers said. “Henry carried us in the first quarter, but then Larry took over in the second and gave us a 30-point advantage in the third.”
Plummer, who scored 57 points in a contest earlier this season, led all scorers with 29 points in the contest. Higgs provided 14, while Tolliver scored eight for the Tigers.
