NATCHEZ — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for counties in the Miss-Lou. The advisory for freezing rain and sleet will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. A winter weather advisory means that periods of sleet and freezing rain will have the potential to cause travel difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and use caution while driving in freezing conditions.
Area counties under the winter weather advisory include Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Wilkinson, Claiborne. Concordia, Catahoula and Tensas parishes in Louisiana are also include in the advisory.
According to the weather statement issued by the NWS, the worst conditions are expected to materialize after daybreak as temperatures fall to near or just below freezing.
A tenth of an inch of ice, mainly on elevated surfaces, is expected. Hazardous travel conditions will develop mainly on bridges and overpasses. Additional light sleet accumulation is possible as well.
