NATCHEZ — After awaking to a home intruder early Thursday, a downtown resident held the man at gunpoint until police arrived.
Natchez police arrested the intruder and continue to investigate the crime.
Caleb Gillespie, 20, 16 Fairway Drive, was charged with burglary, though more charges may be pending, police investigators said.
Natchez Police Lt. Craig Godbold said the crime occurred at approximately 5 a.m. Thursday at a house on Washington Street. Godbold said Gillespie allegedly broke into the house and proceeded upstairs to the homeowner’s bedroom.
Upon seeing Gillespie, Godbold said the homeowner located a firearm, and held Gillespie at gunpoint until police could arrive.
“We believe (Gillespie) may have been highly intoxicated and didn’t know where he was,” Godbold said. “We’re trying to figure it all out.”
No one was injured, and no shots were fired in the incident.
Gillespie is currently in custody at the Natchez City Jail. He is set for arraignment Friday.
