Man accidentally drowns in lake

Ferriday — An apparent accidental drowning occurred at Lake Concordia late Thursday afternoon.
Concordia Parish Sheriff Office deputies and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents recovered the body of an approximately 20-year-old man from Winnsboro, Michael Smith.
According to Sheriff Randy Maxwell, witnesses at the scene indicated that Smith and another man had entered the lake to cool off. They had reportedly been among several others working at a residence on the south end of the lake.
The 911 emergency call was received by the Sheriff’s office at around 5:30 p.m., while the body was recovered around 6 p.m.
The Ferriday Police Department assisted at the scene along with coroner Sarah Lee and Metro Ambulance Serve.
