CANTON — The 2015 season for the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels came to a surprising close Wednesday when they were upset by Winston Academy in the MAIS Class AA state tournament, 47-44.

“I expected to win this ball game,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “I just expected to win it.”

The two teams were neck-and-neck most of the way, but ultimately, Winston Academy was able to pull away in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Rebels 19-12.

“We didn’t have four good quarters,” Hall said. “We got up eight in the second half, but you have to hand it to Winston, they didn’t lay down and we made some very costly mistakes.”

Skylar Adams was the leading scorer for the Lady Rebels with 12 points. Jordan Petty and Anna McDaniel scored nine points each, while Bailey Boyd added eight and sister Mackenzie Boyd added six.

Katie McCool was the leading scorer for Winston Academy with 13 points.

Hall said her team was devastated after the loss and that delivering a message after the game to them was tough.

“I didn’t expect to be going home,” she said. “I hate it for them, but that we are in tournament time and you have to bring it for four quarters. When they are able to regroup and think about the season as a whole and the things that they accomplished in a short period of time, they really did do a great job.”

The loss wraps up the season for the Lady Rebels who finished with a 26-8 record.
