CANTON — The (28-3) Adams County Christian School Rebels started slower than usual, but the end result provided a familiar outcome.

The Rebels were tied 14-14 with Riverfield Academy after the opening quarter, but would go on to outscore the Raiders 37-16 in the next two quarters.

“I think we took it for granted being here,” ACCS head coach Richy Spears said. “It was basically a game of runs, but we had a run and stayed up after that run.”

After beating Riverfield Academy 66-47, a team ACCS has faced multiple times this year, ACCS head coach Richy Spears said his team’s athleticism and speed proved to be the difference maker in the first round of the MAIS Class AA tournament Wednesday evening. More specifically, the agile Brandon Brooks was too much for Riverfield’s big bodies underneath the basket.

“They had some big boys, some offensive linemen down there,” Spears said. “But we were able to use Brandon’s quickness, and he was able to finish.”

Brooks led all scorers with 24 points. Devin Spear accounted for 15 points in the Rebels victory, and Spears said most of Spear’s point came off of breakaways in transition.

ACCS will play Simpson at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the MAIS Class AA State Tournament.
