Good notes fill week for area

We started the week humming along to the tunes of hometown boy Mickey Gilley and ended on a few good notes as well.

Gilley’s return and performance at two great concerts Sunday made for a fun start to a great week. But let’s review some of the other details that came our way last week.

Details are being finalized for a great Christmas in Natchez, and a few 95-degree days couldn’t make us more ready for another fun holiday season. The Christmas in Natchez: City of Lights committee started something good last year and we can’t wait to see what the new season brings.

Natchez High School graduate Tremaine Lance Ford flew to Baltimore last week to sing Sunday as a part of the national choir representing historically black colleges and universities. We remember Ford’s days in the NHS choral program, and it’s great to see that he’s still using his talents.

Adams County Christian School students and alumni experienced a blast from the past last week as they explored items buried in a time capsule in 1990. The school is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Alcorn State University and Copiah-Lincoln Community College have both seen significant increases in enrollment. Though many believe the growth is a reflection of a tight job market, growth in our local schools is a good thing no matter why it has occurred. Education now will mean a better workforce and a brighter future later.

As we look to the week to come, we know the people of the Miss-Lou will keep working to make sure that future is filled with good news.
