NATCHEZ — Duncan Park will host the 2010 Cathedral Fall Festival Tennis Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament is one Cathedral’s three biggest fundraisers of the year. The Cathedral golf tournament already took place Sept. 11 and 12, and the school will wrap up with its fall festival activities at the school Oct. 9 and 10.
Beth Foster, who is in charge of the tennis tournament, said the number of participants varies from year to year. However, the school expects more people to participate this year.
“It fluctuates because of things like different college teams playing, school starting back up and things like that,” Foster said.
“Last year, we had about 50 to 60 people participate, and right now it’s looking more like 75 people, give or take, so that’s definitely a good sign.”
And even though registration officially closed at 6 Thursday evening, the school is still trying to get the final few slots for the tournament filled, Foster said.
“If we feel like we need to fill another section, we’ll try to call some of the tennis players we know and beg and plead for them to play,” she said.
“Some of the sections are a little smaller than we’d like right now. We need a good five teams in each section at least, and right now there are one or two sections with just four teams.”
The tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.
