Music, literature events headline weekend

NATCHEZ — A benefit concert, a literary celebration and a cooking competition will provide weekend entertainment for Miss-Lou residents.
Cool temperatures and sunny skies are expected throughout the weekend. Sunday will be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping as low as 56 degrees.
George Winston benefit piano concert
First Presbyterian Church will host George Winston, a Grammy-Award-winning pianist with multiple platinum albums, in a benefit concert to raise $10,000 for the Stewpot at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The benefit concert will include some of Winston’s best-known piano pieces.
General admission tickets will be $25 and student tickets are $15.
Tickets can be purchased at the First Presbyterian Church office or Rolling River Bistro at 406 Main St.

Natchez Festival of Music’s Love in Bloom benefit dinner and show
The Natchez Festival of Music will celebrate its 25th anniversary at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Carriage House Restaurant.
The anniversary, “Love in Bloom,” will feature a benefit dinner with live and silent auctions to kick off the festival’s fundraising efforts for 2015.
The silent auction will feature the works of 20 local artists who have donated items to the event. The pieces of art will be a variety of items, including pottery, jewelry, wooden bowls, acrylics and watercolor.
Chef Bingo Starr, a chef at the Carriage House Restaurant, will prepare a special meal for the occasion, which will feature a 48-hour Angus beef pot roast.
Cocktails will be available throughout the evening at the cash bar.
Live entertainment by Grammy-award winning tenor Robert Grayson, Jonathon Ray and Crystal Morris will also be provided during the event.
Tickets are $70 to $40 and will be tax deductible. The tickets can be purchased at the Natchez Pilgrimage Tours office or by calling 601-446-6631.
Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration — “Saluting William Johnson”
The fifth and final event of the literary series will honor William Johnson and take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Judge George W. Armstrong Public Library in downtown Natchez.
The event will feature the Natchez Association for Preservation of Afro-American Culture Director Darrell White, who will impersonate Johnson.
A screening of the dedication of the William Johnson House to the Natchez National Historical Park Service and a free tour of the William Johnson House will also take place.
The event is free to the public.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College Chopped Competition
Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus will host the Co-Lin Chopped competition at 10:30 a.m. today in the Nelson-Multipurpose Room.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m., with the competition beginning at 11 a.m.
The competition will feature Chef Bingo Starr of the Carriage House restaurant and Chef Brad Seyfarth of the Castle Restaurant, who will both compete in a battle of culinary greatness, Co-Lin Director of Public Information Nancy McFarland said.
Co-Lin Vice President Teresa Busby said those who attend could expect to taste fabulous food.
“Although only the selected judges will get to taste the magnificent creations of Bingo and Brad, our chef and culinary arts students will prepare and share wonderful hors d’oeurves,” Busby said. “We are excited to host this event on campus. It gives our culinary arts students an opportunity to work with two very talented local chefs and it gives us a chance to showcase our Culinary Arts Program.”
This year’s judges are Busby, Adams County Board of Supervisors Calvin Butler and David Carter, WTYJ’s Denise Clark and 95 Country’s Rosco Kimbro.
Andy Guida of 107.1 the River will be the event’s emcee.
Pink Goes Red for a Day
Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. will sponsor a free community health fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Natchez Mall.
The heath fair will feature free blood pressure checks, BMI readings, educational literature and free hand only CPR demonstrations.
The first 25 for each session will have glucose and cholesterol readings free as well.
