LIBERTY — Tramel McKinsey and Kaleb Sterling combined for 245 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Wilkinson County Christian’s defense set up two scoring drives as the Rams defeated Amite School Center 28-0 Friday night.

And no one could have been happier about the win — WCCA’s second of the season after a rough start — than Rams head coach Billy Jack Caston.

“I’m as proud as a proud papa could be. I’m proud of the kids. I’m proud of the coaching staff. I’m proud for the city of Woodville.”

WCCA’s first scoring drive was set up by the first of two interceptions by Sterling at the ASC 28-yard line. McKinsey scored on an 8-yard run for a 6-0 lead with 5:04 to go in the first quarter.

McKinsey, who finished with 123 yards rushing on 21 carries, scored on a 6-yard run late in the first half and Moe’s 2-point conversion run gave the Rams a 14-0 halftime lead.

Sterling scored on a 53-yard run just over a minute into the second half and McKinsey ran in for 2 points for a 22-0 WCCA lead. Sterling ran for 122 yards on just seven carries.

Josh Gayle set up the Rams’ final touchdown drive of the game when he picked off a pass and returned it 24 yards to midfield. Trenton Hall scored on a 1-yard run with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter.

“Offensive line did enough because they put 10 in the box,” Caston said. “Over half (of McKinsey’s yards) were after contact. Trenton managed the game and made good decisions. Kaleb did a good job defensively. It was a team effort.”

Gayle had a team-leading 12 tackles while Tucker Curry had eight tackles and Sterling also had a fumble recovery.

“I’m proud of the kids for hanging in there. Amite School Center is better than their record indicates. Coach Olive does a good job.”

WCCA (2-3) hits the road again next Friday when the Rams play at Tallulah Academy at 7 p.m.

In addition to his two short touchdown runs, Hurst was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points. He finished with 52 yards on 12 carries while Travis had four carries for 76 yards.
