NATCHEZ — Services for Willie Anderson, 78, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, in Washington, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott officiating.
Burial will follow at the St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingston under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Anderson was born June 17, 1936, in New Orleans, the son of the Rev. Burrell Anderson and Amanda King Anderson.
The family moved to Natchez in 1943, where he made his home until his wife, Mary, died. In 2005, Willie moved to Washington to be closer to his daughters. He was a member of the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Md., where he served on the deacon board, a member of the male mhorus, the mass choir and the Golden Agers Ministry. He enjoyed visiting the sick and those confined to their homes.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carey Anderson; two sisters, Eartherine Anderson and Eula Lee Anderson; and one niece, Eartherine Anderson Love.
Survivors include one son, Cedric S. Anderson Sr. of Mississippi; two daughters, Dr. Kwamme A. Anderson of Washington and Dr. Tia E. Anderson Donald and husband, Brandon, of Madisonville, La.; three grandchildren, Cedrina K. Averette and husband, Kenneth, Cedric S. Anderson Jr. and baby Bria Donald; and a number of other relatives and friends in Washington and Natchez.
