NATCHEZ —A candlelight vigil for the unborn and Natchez Little Theatre’s comical production will give area residents something to look forward to this weekend.
Heavy rain and cool temperatures are expected today and Friday, which will be followed up by sunny skies for the remainder of the weekend.
Candlelight Vigil for the Unborn
The annual Candlelight Vigil for the Unborn will take place at 5:30 p.m. today at the Bandstand Gazebo on Broadway Street in downtown Natchez.
Sponsored by Pro-Life Natchez Adams County, the event will mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court Roe V. Wade decision, which granted a woman’s legal right to an abortion.
The event will feature area high school students who will briefly share their views on abortion.
“I’m looking forward to it and we are interested in what these young people have to say,” said Pro-Life Natchez-Adams County co-chairperson Virginia O’Beirne.
O’Beirne said the organization will take a stand and let the world know that they will not give up.
“We are winning this battle,” O’Beirne said. “Abortion is down and we are going to stick to our guns. These babies need us to fight for them.”
The vigil, O’Beirne said, will last approximately 30 minutes and will continue despite rainy conditions.
David Haworth Piano Concert
The David Haworth piano concert will take place at 7 p.m. today at the Concordia Bank Lobby in Vidalia on 904 Carter St.
For the past 10 years, Haworth has performed piano shows all over the world, including performing for royalty and celebrities, said Joe Webber, Lake St. John resident.
The performance is free and open to the public.
Natchez Little Theatre’s ‘And Then There Were…Nun’
Natchez Little Theatre will kick off its 83rd year with a comedy and murder mystery all rolled into one and titled, “And Then There Were…Nun.”
The NLT production finds 10 iconic Golden Age stars-turned nuns attending a weekend retreat in a foreboding mansion on a secluded island where death lurks around each and every corner.
The show opens tonight and will continue at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The show will close with a final performance at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets for the performance are $15 for non-members of NLT.

Historic Natchez Foundation’s Cocktail Reception

The reception will honor the service of Hank Holmes, retiring executive director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and welcome Katie Blount at his replacement.
