VIDALIA — A Crosby woman died Saturday night after she ran into highway traffic in what law enforcement investigators believe was a suicide.
Jacqueline N. Randall, 41, 3735 Perry Town Road, Crosby, threw herself in front of oncoming traffic on Rountree Road after leaving the Dodge Store on U.S. 84 with her daughter, Brittany Dobson.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Rob Polk responded to the call at approximately 10:58 p.m.
Polk said Randall was at the Stockyard Saloon on U.S. 84 when the club’s owner took Randall’s keys, refusing to let her drive because the owner believed Randall was intoxicated.
Randall’s daughter came and picked Randall up, and the two stopped at the Dodge Store.
“They left going toward Vidalia, and for unknown reasons (Randall) jumped out of the car while sitting in the passenger side,” Polk said.
Polk said Dobson stopped the car and attempted to put her mother back in, but Randall broke away stating she “Didn’t want to live anymore.”
Randall ran into highway was hit by a 2000 Cadillac Escalade, by a Vidalia resident. The motorist was not injured during the accident.
Polk said Concordia Parish Coroner Darryl Price ruled the accident as a suicide.
“It’s not very common for someone to commit suicide in this matter,” Polk said. “We do feel that intoxication played a big role in it.”
Polk said Randall’s blood sample was obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police’s crime lab to determine her alcohol level and to check for any controlled substances.
