Major League Baseball player Brent Leach is bringing a baseball camp to Liberty Park in Natchez Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants ages 6 through 18 will get the opportunity to learn from the Milwaukee Brewers’ Leach, Brewers’ 2014 draft pick Chad Reeves and former Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Barry Wesson.
“Any time I had a chance growing up, I was signing up for every camp around the area, and I always said that I needed to return the favor,” Leach said. “I’ve been around some guys that have top knowledge in the game, and that puts yourself in a position to learn.”
Leach graduated from Brandon High School before playing baseball at Southern Miss and Delta State and spending 11 years playing professional baseball. He has family members who have grown up in Natchez, and when he was younger spent a lot of his time in the area.
Leach will soon be joining Reeves in big league camp with the Brewers for the 2015 season, but not before both join forces in Natchez.
“It’s always nice to help younger kids reach their dreams like I’ve been fortunate enough to have,” Reeves said.
The 2015 Brent Leach Kids Camp presented by Natchez Rehab and Sports Specialists will be the first of its kind in Natchez, but Leach has previously held camps in Brandon and Brookhaven.
Cost to attend the camp will be $45, and those wanting to participate may see Chip Sturdivant at Sports Center or sign up at Liberty Park at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
