Are you like many who have crepe myrtle trees in their garden that need a little tender loving care, but you are just not sure what to do? Or maybe you are thinking about planting some in your garden and would like to learn more about their requirements and maintenance. If so, the Adams County Master Gardener organization has just what you may be looking for.

Please mark your calendars for the upcoming Adams County Master Gardeners’ hands-on educational workshop demonstrating the effective method of pruning one of Natchez’s most beautiful and significant trees, the crepe myrtle.

The workshop will be held at the Natchez City Cemetery Thursday and Jan. 29, and again on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26, with Joanne King, Adams County Master Gardener, guiding the participants.

The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and participants are asked to meet at the Natchez City Cemetery’s office. Participants are asked to bring along any pruning equipment such as loppers, hand pruners, gloves, etc.

One of the goals of the Adams County Master Gardener organization is to provide education to our community through hands-on workshops and demonstrations.

As many of us around Natchez and the surrounding area have crepe myrtle trees in our gardens, this will be a fun-filled opportunity to meet others who share a love of gardening and also to become familiar with the proper pruning techniques of these beautiful and well known trees.

Even if you don’t currently have a crepe myrtle in your garden, but would like to have one, there will be an opportunity to learn the method of propagating from a branch, rooting it and transplanting to your garden.

This demonstration is free and all you need do is show up with your pruning equipment and let the Adams County Master Gardeners show you a good time as we learn the basics of pruning a crepe myrtle tree.
