NATCHEZ — Several people are out of a home after a Natchez man allegedly enflamed with anger over a recent romantic breakup set fire to their residence.
Emmanuel I. Griffin, 29, 93 Aldrich St., was arrested on a charge of arson Sunday night in connection with a Saturday fire at the apartments located at 93 Aldrich St.
Natchez Police Department Detective Jerry Ford said Griffin and his girlfriend had recently broken up, and she had made him leave the apartment.
“He still had a set of keys, and he returned to the apartment and pretty much set it on fire,” Ford said. “It was basically a domestic dispute.”
The fire damaged not only the apartment of Griffin’s former girlfriend, but also two other apartment units in the area. Two of the apartments — including the girlfriend’s — had to be evacuated because of the damage, Ford said.
The police were able to identify Griffin as the suspect through witness statements, Ford said, and when he was arrested the day following the fire investigators noticed he had burn marks on his right hand, his nose, lips and boots.
Griffin was detained without bond Monday.
