NATCHEZ — Services for Gloria Swint David, 87, who died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, in Dallas, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Kramer officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Mrs. David was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Hall Summit, La., the daughter of Lawrence and Alma Swint.

Mrs. David was always an excellent student and was selected valedictorian of her graduating class at age 16. She received her bachelor’s degree at Northwestern State College of Louisiana and later continued her studies at Duke University. She began teaching school when she was only 19 in Sulfur, La., where she met Joseph B. David, her beloved husband of 48 years.

Mrs. David taught elementary school for nearly 30 years and was a wonderful, devoted mother to four daughters. She and her husband enjoyed spending time with their many friends in the Beck Street neighborhood in New Orleans and retired in Natchez in 1992. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist church and an active member of the Jefferson Street United Methodist Women’s Circle. She loved her garden and enjoyed traveling with Friends-Five-O and playing bridge with a loyal group of friends.

Mrs. David loved her family and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and son-in-law, Dr. Conrad Clement “Chee Chee” Barnes Jr.

Survivors include four daughters, Andree David Cosse and husband, Steve, Susan David Barnes, Joan David and Amy David; seven grandchildren, Kurt David Cosse and wife, Erin, Stephanie Cosse Walsh and husband, Greg, Lauren Barnes Garrity and husband, Justin, Conrad Clement Barnes III and wife, Shauna, Alexander David Barnes, Amy Elizabeth Hazel and Shelby Stephen Hazel; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jefferson Street United Methodist Church or to a charity of choice.
