ACCS gets win, NHS falls

The Adams County Christian School Rebels came away with a decisive 67-26 win over the Prentiss Christian School Saints Friday night to remain undefeated in MAIS District 5-AA.
But after what ACCS head coach Richy Spears said after the game about his team’s performance, it did not sound like the Rebels won by so many points.
“We came out sluggish,” Spears said. “We just weren’t doing the things we usually do. We were scoring, but we weren’t doing it in transition and with defense,”
The Saints failed to score in double digits in any single quarter. The Saints trailed the Rebels 18-6 after one quarter of play and 36-13 at halftime.
And whatever Spears said to his team at halftime apparently fired them up. For the Saints, that was the last thing that needed to happen as the Rebels outscored them 24-4 in the third quarter for a commanding 60-17 lead.
“The third quarter, we did a much better job offensively and defensively. Especially defensively,” Spears said. “There’s some things we’ve got to work on defensively.”
Nearly every player on ACCS’s team got into the scoring column. Brody Cole led the Rebels with a game-high 15 points. Trey Fleming and Tyler Stockstill had seven points apiece.
There was one thing Spears said he was happy about — getting through the first round of district play without a loss.
ACCS (13-2, 4-0) host Parklane Academy next Tuesday night.
Brookhaven 72, Natchez High 52
BROOKHAVEN — The second and third quarters proved to be Natchez High School’s downfall as the Bulldogs lost to the Brookhaven High School Panthers 72-52 in an MHSAA Division 6-5A game Friday night.
Despite getting off to a slow start, Natchez High was down just 13-9 to Brookhaven after one quarter of play. But any thoughts of a possible upset ended when the Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 23-13 in the second quarter that gave the home team a 36-22 lead.
The Panthers then proceeded to outscore the Bulldogs 19-10 in the third quarter for a 55-32 advantage.
Darrian Wilson led Brookhaven with a game-high 22 points and Travis Moore contributed with 12 points. Natchez High was led by Joel Bacon and Micheal Morris with eight points each.
Natchez High (8-4, 1-1) returns to action next Tuesday night when it hosts Vidalia.
Wesson 66, Jefferson County 63
FAYETTE — It was a tale of two halves for the Wesson High School Cobras and the Jefferson County High School Tigers in their MHSAA Division 7-3A showdown Friday night.
Jefferson County dominated Wesson in the first half, but it was the Cobras who got the last laugh as they used a big fourth quarter to rally for a 66-63 win over the Tigers.
The Tigers came out on fire offensively and played some good defense in the first two quarters. They led the Cobras 17-12 after one quarter of play and 38-23 at halftime. Jefferson County was led by Tijuan Cameron with 19 points and Joshua Day had 15 points.
However, Wesson would turn the tables on the home team in the second half. Led by the duo of Anthony Jones and Dartavious Dixon, the Cobras outscored the Tigers 16-10 in the third quarter and 27-15 in the fourth quarter. Jones led all scorers with 26 points, and Dixon followed with 18 points.
