After losing on a buzzer-beating layup Monday night to Madison, the Ferriday Lady Trojans got back on track Tuesday as they rolled over the Sicily Island Lady Tigers, 57-21.

Ferriday jumped out to an early lead, and was able to hold Sicily Island to just 15 first-half points.

“We used various presses today to get us going,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. “We play a lot better when we pressure. We get the flow early, play up-tempo, and that gets our confidence up and sets up easy baskets.”

Jada Griggs led Ferriday with 15 points and teammates Kesia Mason and Trenace Morgan chipped in 14 and 10, respectively.

Despite being on the winning end of things, Abron said her team is still a bit sluggish.

“We still don’t have our legs back, and we’re still sluggish in some areas, but I was pretty pleased with the game,” she said. “We had a nice lead and everybody got a chance to play. It is always good when everyone can get experience.”

Ferriday will play in their final game of the Sicily Island tournament at noon today against Block.

Madison 34, Vidalia 30

SICILY ISLAND — The Vidalia Vikings were riding a high coming off a win Monday night, but they were unable to get a streak going and fell to Madison, 34-30.

“We fought,” Vidalia head coach Fred Marsalis said. “After Monday’s game, we are doing things as a team. We missed a few layups and had some turnovers, but if the ball rolls a different way, we win.”

Tierra Bell led Vidalia with eight points and Taylor Wilson chipped in with seven of her own.

Trinity 68, Amite School Center 22

Jasmine Ivory scored 18 points and Tali Beard recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trinity Lady Saints past Amite School Center, 68-22.

Trinity jumped out to a huge 30-4 lead after the first quarter of play, and it was smooth sailing to the finish for the Lady Saints, who improved to 7-5 with the win.

Jefferson County 49, Florence 47

FLORENCE — Antrell Gales scored 18 points and Jefferson County rallied back from being down seven to start the fourth quarter to defeat the Florence Lady Eagles 49-47.

A 16-point fourth quarter was key in the win for Jefferson County, and the Lady Tigers were able to hold Florence to just 16 second-half points.

Kailyn Hammett recorded 15 points in the win and Diamond Smith added five with 10 rebounds.

Block 52, Tensas 50

SICILY ISLAND — Block head coach Veronica Savage said she wanted her team to realize they needed to come out the gate running, and they did just that Tuesday in a 52-50 win against Tensas.

“I believe the girls decided to turn it up,” Savage said. “We just haven’t been playing top-speed ball, which is what we are known for.”

Jazlyn “Pinkie” Savage led Block with 15 points, and teammates LaKisica Bowman and Bontresia Barber added 14 and 12, respectively.
