Natchez Police have arrested a 16-year-old school dropout in connection to the death of a 62-year-old man over the weekend.

Jamon Williams, 204 Dumas Drive, has been charged with murder and will be tried as an adult, Sgt. Craig Godbold said.

Williams was brought in for questioning and arrested late Saturday after police responded to a Friday night call in the 500 block of Madison Street, where they found John E. Henderson lying on the ground with blunt force trauma to the back of his head.

Henderson was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center, then to a Jackson hospital, where he died at 1:33 p.m. Saturday.

Godbold said four males, whose ages range from 12 to 20, surrounded Henderson and began to harass him without motive. According to witness accounts, Williams was the instigator.

“We believe (Williams) is the one that physically struck Mr. Henderson,” Godbold said. “(Williams) punched Henderson in the face, and Henderson fell backward and hit his head on the curb.”

Godbold said it appears no weapon was used in the attack.

Investigators also questioned the males who accompanied Williams, but none are in custody.

“At this time, no one else has been charged,” Godbold said.

Williams is being held without bond as investigators continue to interview witnesses. An arraignment date has not been set.
