CENTREVILLE — Randy Bell scored two touchdowns, one rushing and the other on special teams, and Gage Chandler ran for 99 yards and a touchdown as Centreville Academy took care of the Wilkinson County Christian Rams 35-6 Friday night.

With a heartbreaking loss at Brookhaven Academy a week earlier behind them, the Tigers took care of business in this MAIS District 5-AA matchup with their longtime Wilkinson County rivals.

Cliff Hurst scored on a 6-yard run with 8:55 remaining in the first quarter for a 7-0 Centreville lead. Colton Terrell added a 4-yard touchdown run with just nine seconds left in the quarter to make it 14-0.

Bell’s first touchdown of the game was on a 42-yard punt return and Hurst’s extra point gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead with 10:31 to go until halftime. Bell then scored on a 23-yard run just under three minutes later.

Chandler, who had 99 yards rushing on just three carries, scored on a 65-yard run with 3:31 left until halftime. Hurst added the extra point to give Centreville (4-4, 2-0) a 35-0 at the break. Hurst was a perfect 5-for-5 on point afters.

With the Tigers’ second-teamers playing in the second half, WCCA (2-5, 0-2) finally got on the scoreboard when the Rams blocked a punt and Tucker Curry returned it seven yards for a touchdown with 11:40 remaining in the ball game.

While Centreville racked up 256 of its 285 total yards on the ground, WCCA had very little success moving the ball against an improving Tigers defense. The Rams had just four first downs and 138 yards of total offense and they turned the ball over three times.

WCCA host Central Private for homecoming next Friday while Centreville steps out of district play to host LHSAA Class 2A Fisher High out of Lafitte, La. Kickoff for both games is 7 p.m.
