Ferriday shuts out district opponent

MANGHAM, La. — The Ferriday Trojans went on the road and stunned the Mangham Dragons 34-0 Friday night in the District 2-2A opener for both teams.
“Our defense showed up tonight. It was a good showing to shut them out. Mangham was picked to finish second in our district,” Ferriday head coach Chad Harkins said. “Offensively, we moved the ball up and down the field.”
Harkins said Ferriday (3-3, 1-0) had over 400 yards of total offense and was led by ZuRaine Thompson, who had over 100 yards passing and nearly 70 yards rushing, Jarvis Brooks, who had a touchdown, and De’Vante Scott, who Harkins said had several big runs.
Ferriday hosts Jonesboro-Hodge next Friday at 7 p.m.
Block 45, Northwood-Lena 18
LENA, La. — The Block Bears, ranked No. 8 in Class 1A, had no problem defeating the Northwood-Lena Gators in their District 3-1A opener Friday night to improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in district play
Block travels to Natchitoches, La., next Friday to take on No. 1 St. Mary’s with the inside track on the district title at stake. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
