CENTREVILLE — The Board of Trustees of Field Memorial Community Hospital announced Friday a new name for its organization, Field Health System.
A hospital spokesperson said the new name represents the expansion of health care services beyond the critical access hospital to include off-campus primary care sites in Centreville and surrounding communities, including Woodville, Gloster and Liberty. The name change will coincide with the completion of the new hospital facility in Centreville, which is scheduled to open by the summer of 2015.
“The Board of Field Memorial Community Hospital values the Field name and the legacy it has represented to the community for 70 years,” Board Chair Ann Morris said. “We are committed to build on that legacy to create an even higher level of service for our regional community.
“We look forward to providing a health care system that the residents of Wilkinson and Amite counties will proudly utilize for their healthcare needs.”
The hospital spokesperson said in retaining “Field” in the new name, the Board recognizes and respects the community’s historical attachment to the institution, which has served as a vital source of local healthcare for more than 70 years.
The hospital was founded when brothers Richard and Samuel Field financed and built a 35-bed hospital in 1928.
The hospital was sold to Wilkinson and Amite counties in 1951.
