NATCHEZ — Mackenzie and Bailey Boyd can’t describe the connection they have on the basketball court.

They just know where the other one is going to be.

“We are close to each other, always together and that helps us mesh well on the court,” Mackenzie said. “I just know what she is going to do and she knows what I am going to do.”

Their stellar play as the point and shooting guards has gotten the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels off to a fast start this season, and the two hope to make a run at a state title this season.

“I hope we can win state this year because this has been my favorite year compared to others,” Bailey said. “It would be cool to win it with my sister.”

Bailey, a freshman point guard, and Mackenzie, a junior shooting guard, have been side by side on the court since they began playing, and they believe that is what makes them so dangerous at the high school level.

“I’ve been playing since the fourth grade and she’s been playing since the fifth,” Bailey said. “I started playing on her team when I was in the fifth grade, and we’ve been on the same team ever since then.”

Despite being on the same team, the two like to clash every now and then in some friendly competition.

“Oh yeah we are competitive,” Mackenzie said. “Especially in practice.”

Bailey agreed.

“When we’re out here we like to work together, but at home, we play against each other,” she said. “I always give her a fight.”

But the Boyd’s still look out for each other, learning and helping one another improve their game.

“If we are on the court and one of us messes up, we just keep encouraging each other to keep going and to not worry about it,” Bailey said.

Mackenzie has embraced the role as the oldest and said she tries to look out for her little sister and teach her some of the ropes.

“I watched her do a lot of things and then I would want to learn how to do it,” said Bailey of Mackenzie. “So then, I would go and learn how, and she would teach me.”

Ultimately, the Boyd’s want one another to succeed, and to lead their team to victory. And they hope they will be able to do that together.
