ORLANDO — The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Council of 1890 recognized Alcorn State University as the STEM Degree Completion Award winner at the annual 1890 Teaching, Research and Innovation Awards in Orland in November.
Alcorn was recognized for the greatest increase in science, technology, engineering and mathematics bachelor’s degrees earned from 2012-2013 through 2013-2014.
The Council of 1890 Universities works to strengthen teaching, research and extension programs as well as seeks to maintain, ensure and increase funding at these institutions.
Interim Provost and Executive Vice President Donzell Lee said he was pleased with Alcorn’s success in the highlighted areas of study.
“A great deal of emphases is being place on the STEM areas, so it is great that Alcorn is acknowledged for the good work that is occurring here,” Lee said.
“Our STEM faculty members work very hard to help our students progress through the various STEM majors. I am certain that they are happy with the work that resulted in this award.”
