BROOKHAVEN — Adams County Christian School’s balanced offensive attack was just enough to overcome Peyton Hood’s 36-point performance as the Rebels held on for a 63-60 win over the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Tuesday night in the MAIS District 5-AA opener.

Brandon Brooks led ACCS with 14 points while Jay Fleming scored 12 points and Lester Wells added 11 points. All six players for the Rebels who reached the scoring column finished with at least seven points.

“We never quit. Brookhaven (Academy) is a hard place to play,” ACCS head coach Richy Spears said. “I’ve been coming here for a long time, but we never quit and got frustrated at times. We kept plugging.”

Hood, along with Caleb Brown and Austin Smith, tried to lead Brookhaven Academy on a comeback in the fourth quarter. But it wasn’t meant to be even though the Cougars outscored ACCS 21-16. Both Brown and Smith had 10 points.

ACCS (5-1, 1-0) hosts Riverfield Academy Thursday night.

Natchez High 76, Wilkinson County 57

WOODVILLE — Daryl Jones and Tyran Newman led four Natchez High players with 15 points each as the Bulldogs defeated the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats 76-57 Tuesday night.

After the first quarter ended in an 11-11 tie, Natchez High started to pull away in the second quarter and took a 27-17 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs put on a clinic on both ends of the court in the third quarter as they outscored Wilkinson County 26-11 for a commanding 53-28 lead.

The Wildcats finally got some shots to fall in the fourth quarter and actually outscored the Bulldogs 29-23. However, the 25-point deficit was too big to overcome.

Michael Morris added 11 points and Joel Bacon chipped in with 10 points for the Bulldogs. The Wildcats were led by Traveon Jones with a game-high 19 points while Desmond Hunter and Jaquarious Stewart each had 10 points.

Natchez High (5-0) plays host to Jefferson County Friday night. Wilkinson County plays at Amite County Friday night.

Jefferson County 54, Amite County 46

LIBERTY — Christian Day and Akeem Williams led Jefferson County with 14 points apiece as the Tigers used a big third quarter to defeat the Amite County Trojans 54-46 Tuesday night.

The first half was an up-and-down one for both teams. Jefferson County held a 10-5 lead over Amite County after one quarter of play, but the Trojans outscored the Tigers 12-5 in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 17-15 lead.

Jefferson County next plays at Natchez High Friday night.

Vidalia 42, Sterlington 39

STERLINGTON, La. — Julius Wilson led Vidalia High School with a game-high 15 points as the Vikings edged past the Sterlington High School Panthers 42-39 Tuesday night.

Vidalia held a 22-18 lead over Sterlington at halftime, but the Panthers outscored the Vikings 15-11 in the third quarter to tie the game at 33-33. However, the Vikings won the game thanks to a 9-6 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Malik Jefferson added seven points while Ramonte Jackson and Demarco Brown had six points each for the Vikings.

Vidalia (6-1) will next play at the Wossman Tripleheader in Monroe, La. Friday against a team to be determined at a time to be determined.

Amite School Center 51, WCCA 49

WOODVILLE — Dylan Fry led Amite School Center with a game-high 18 points as the Rebels needed a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Wilkinson County Christian School Rams 51-49 Tuesday night.

Colton Nettles led the Rams with 15 points and Hayden Patterson added 13 points. Ashton Planche scored eight points for the Rebels.

WCCA (1-9) plays host to Bethany Christian Thursday night.
