Why not give gifts of art for Christmas?

ArtsNatchez Gallery, at 425 Main St., is gearing up for “Gifts of Art” — a new type of silent auction for us, just in time for holiday gift giving.

This fundraiser is the brain-child of our group of 30 talented artists and Gallery Coordinator Ariel Gardner.

Tired of searching in stores, catalogues, and on websites for unique Christmas gifts? Why not give a one-of-a-kind gift of art? It couldn’t be easier than the Gifts of Art silent auction being hosted by the ArtsNatchez Gallery.

Almost all of the members of ArtsNatchez have created and donated 30-and-counting special works of art especially for this auction, and some have contributed extras. In addition, we have three works by former member and Coloradan Margaret Watts, along with five pieces of pottery donated by her husband, Will Wamsly.

We want to accommodate your busy holiday schedule with two preview and bidding days. On Friday and Saturday during regular gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can stroll through the exhibit and bid at your leisure.

The traditional silent bidding session will take place at a reception with wine, refreshments and entertainment by Drew David and Will Carter from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free and you don’t have to be present to have the high bid.

For more information, call ArtsNatchez Gallery at 601-442-0043 or myself at 601-442-1722 or 601-493-4106.

The items run the gamut of subjects from Santa to Longwood Mansion to turtles to the Mammy’s Cupboard and from media of pottery to photographs to oil, watercolor, acrylic, graphite and colored pencil paintings to weaving to jewelry to a magnificent 17-inch black walnut bowl.

Please stop by this Friday or Saturday to check them out and join us Saturday night.

ArtsNatchez is a 501(c) (3) organization which depends on tax-deductible donations along with fundraisers to stay afloat.

Founded in April of 2008, the gallery of local artists is a nonprofit membership organization managed by a Board of Directors. Every artist works at the gallery one day each month in order hang their works at ArtsNatchez.

Give art and you won’t have to worry about size or color.

This event is different from the Art Treasures Auction which has been hosted for several years, and will be held again in the spring of 2015.
