VIDALIA — The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race will not be the only event Miss-Lou residents have to look forward to this weekend, as the Riverfront in Vidalia will host the 10th annual Vidalia Landing Fall Market.
The market will open at 6 p.m. Friday and will have booths selling everything from handmade jewelry and crafts to furniture and glass tools.
Vidalia Landing Fall Market promoter Eric Glatzer said the market has been constantly growing since its first year.
“We had 110 booths last year, and it rained before it opened,” he said. “The weather is going to be absolutely perfect this year, and we are expecting more than 100 booths again.”
Glatzer said the market on the Riverfront is very popular around the area.
“It is one of the vendors’ favorite events in the region,” he said. “The location on the river and the balloon race festivities make it a great experience.”
Glatzer said the market is a great image of the Miss-Lou.
“It just presents such a wonderful picture of a unified community working together,” he said. “It shows what we can do if we are all working together.”
Vendors with merchandise from 10 states and two countries will be at the market to sell items, Glatzer said.
“I am excited this year because we are getting a lot of homemade items,” he said. “There will be a little bit of merchandise, but there will be more handmade jewelry and crafts.”
Glatzer said there will even be things for children to partake in at the market.
“We are going to have baby and children’s items on sale,” he said. “And we are also going to have activities for the kids to participate in.”
With free parking and free admission, Glatzer said Miss-Lou residents have every reason to come out to the market.
“They are going to see stuff from all over the southwest being sold,” he said. “The variety will be huge and it will be items you won’t see anywhere else.”
Glatzer said the atmosphere at the market is always a pleasant one, and people are always coming back.
“Vendors know that when they come here they are going to have what they need,” he said. “You take care of people and treat them nicely; they will come back.”
