NATCHEZ — Do you have any “rusty gold” in your backyard or barn? If so, the producers of a documentary television series about antiques hunting want to know if they can take a peek.

Jessica Cauthen, public relations spokesperson for the City of Natchez, said Thursday she received a call from a casting producer of the popular History Channel show American Pickers.

The producer said the show is heading to the Louisiana/Mississippi border in January and has an interest in collecting leads on finding interesting characters with interesting stuff.

The show follows two skilled antiques buyers or pickers, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, as they travel across the United States in search of America’s most valuable antiques from motorcycles, classic cars and bicycles to one-of-a-kind vintage memorabilia.

Cauthen said she’s attempting to get the word out to all local residents who think they might have interesting items to be featured and possibly sold on the television show.

“I would love for them to come to Natchez and see the area,” Cauthen said. “All that exposure would be great for our area.”

The television producers sent Cauthen a list of items the stars of the show are currently looking to buy.

The list ranges from items such as pinball and slot machines, old movie posters, folk art and early Halloween items. On the show, Wolfe and Fritz often refer to what they seek as “rusty gold.”

The list says the stars of the show are not looking for any farming/agriculture items, tools, glassware, appliances, tractors, crocks, stoves or country primitives.

Cauthen said the television producers also mentioned that no stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses, antique stores or anything open to the public would be considered for the show.
