The ACCS Lady Rebels had four players score in double digits and ran away from the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers Tuesday night in a 70-44 victory.

“I saw a lot of good things and a lot of things we need to work on,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “The biggest thing was our unity and our kids had fun.”

Bailey Boyd, Skylar Adams, Anna McDaniel and Jordan Petty all had 11 points for ACCS.

“That is wonderful and one of the many neat things about this team is their unity,” Hall said. “Each one of them has something to bring. They do it together, they are such a team and they are unselfish.”

After finishing the first quarter with a 13-11 lead, ACCS outscored Centreville 42-18 in the second and third quarter to secure the win.

“We just did what we do,” Hall said. “We were selective on our shots, and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. When we settled down and played our game, we did a lot better.”

 

Madison Parish 56, Vidalia 37

VIDALIA — The Vidalia Lady Vikings were unable to handle Madison Parish at home Tuesday, falling 56-37.

“We’re not playing our game to the fullest,” Vidalia head coach Fred Marsalis said. “We do well in practice, but we just seem to have mental lapses when we bring it to the floor.”

This year’s Vidalia team is made up mainly of younger players, and Marsalis said they are beginning to mature.

“We are getting there and the thing about our young players is they just have to play,” he said. “We can teach fundamentals and this and that, but they have to get game experience. We’ve got a long way to go.”

 

Monterey 33, Forest 32

FOREST — The Monterey Lady Wolves squeaked out a one-point road victory Tuesday night against the Forest Lady Bulldogs, 33-32.

The win pushes Monterey’s record to 5-1.

“I thought we battled from beginning to end,” Monterey head coach Cary Shivley said. “We were behind for probably 31 of the 32 minutes in the game, but we went ahead in the last minute and ended up winning.

Monterey was led by Carly Scott with nine points and Morgan Pecanty, who scored seven.

Shivley said getting a win on the road was a big plus for the team.

“I was proud of a really good effort,” he said. “They could have a good year if they continue to play like that.”

Next up for Monterey is Northwood Lena in a tournament the Lady Wolves are hosting.

 

Prentiss 54, Jefferson County 51

After starting the season 2-0, the Jefferson County Lady Tigers took their first loss of the season 54-51 against Prentiss.

Antrell Gales led the way for Jefferson County with 23 points and Diamond Smith added 13 in the loss.

Joy Powell led Prentiss with 19 points and Myyah West and Alexus Williams each added 15 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Jefferson County will now turn their attention to last year’s MHSAA Class 5A State champions Natchez for their matchup Thursday at home.

 

Franklin County 52, Brookhaven 35

The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on Brookhaven and were able to hold on for a 52-35 victory Tuesday night.

“I think we performed well,” Franklin County head coach Ricky O’Quinn said. “We got off to a good start and the past four or five games we haven’t been doing that. I think we came out to our best start all year and we had our first complete game of the year.”

Franklin County was led by Tadayla and Jada Hunt who scored 16 and 14 points in the game, respectively.

“Tadayla has been scoring like that all year, and defensively Jada has been great for us,” O’Quinn said. “Both are returning starters. We expect a lot out of them, and tonight they came through.”

Franklin County was also helped by Sierra Dethley who had 8 points on the night.
