NATCHEZ — Tiffany Mosby and her family declared victory as they visited Belk in the Natchez Mall during Black Friday — stacking a mountain of boots.

“We have to make sure we have enough for everybody,” Mosby said. “We have all of our girls with us.”

Mosby’s sisters, Candace Green and Latoya Winston, accompanied her to Belk and helped round up nearly 40 boxes of boots.

“We have our daughters here, and we’re just grabbing boots,” Mosby said. “We ran and pulled everything we needed.”

The family was originally looking for the a certain style of boots, but only found two pairs. That didn’t stop the sisters from gathering as many boots as possible.

“They’re just too cute,” Green said. “Everybody is coming for these boots.”

Hundreds of locals and visitors flooded the mall for its holiday sales, and many did not leave until they retrieved at least a few items on their lists.

Green celebrated her birthday on Thanksgiving Day, and coming out to shop with her family was the icing on the cake she needed.

“It’s the deals, the family and the rush,” Green said. “We get to be a tag team together.”

Mosby said she and her sisters have one strategy when it comes to Black Friday shopping, dunking and dodging.

“Another part of our technique is going through these boxes and eliminating the ones we don’t need,” Green said.

The sisters later visited Walmart in Natchez and set their sights on the big name electronic tablets.

Black Friday shopping has also become a tradition for Dolly Smith, but only for her grandchildren.

“I’m just looking for gifts for my granddaughters,” Smith said. “Most of the items I get will be headphones and boots.”

Smith did not get a rush while shopping for her grandchildren, but she did find a sense of relief.

“The children aren’t with you so you’re able to get a lot more done,” Smith said.

Smith called it a night after leaving Belk, but Holli Walker was just getting started at Walmart.

Walker drove from Woodville for her children, but she couldn’t leave without getting something for herself — a new digital camera.

“I got a train table set for my son (Jennings) and a Frozen doll for my daughter (Emma), but the main thing I stood in line for was the Canon camera,” Walker said.

The camera went on sale at 8 p.m., but Walker was already in line by 5 p.m.

“I just want to take pictures of my kids,” Walker said. “Plus, I’ve always wanted one.”

Both Walker and her husband, Ed, were the last to retrieve their items.

“(Ed) wanted a 32-inch TV, and he was the last one to get it,” Walker said. “He was No. 24, but got moved up to No. 23, which was the last number.”

Walker said her experience during Black Friday wasn’t bad, but eventful.
