NATCHEZ — Local community members on both sides of the river will gather Tuesday to give thanks for another year.

Community Thanksgiving services sponsored by the Miss-Lou Ministerial Alliance will be hosted in Natchez and Vidalia Tuesday.

In Natchez, the community Thanksgiving service will be at 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Dennis Ellingburg from Morgantown Baptist Church will preach, and Jefferson Street Chancel Choir will perform during the service.

Curt Smith will direct the singing in worship with David Goldblatt accompanying on organ and piano.

Jefferson Street pastor and Ministerial Alliance member John Kramer said the service is an important one for the community.

“For the area Christian churches and the community, we feel that it’s important that we worship together at least once a year to give thanks to God for our common faith in Christ,” Kramer said. “That’s what we all have in common, and that’s important.”

The evening offering will be given entirely to Stewpot ministries, which provides daily meals for local residents in need.

“We consider that a vital ministry, and so we wanted the offering to go entirely to them,” Kramer said. “We’ll be accepting a monetary offering, and that’s really the best thing for Stewpot because they can buy the things they need a lot cheaper than we can give to them.”

In Vidalia, the community Thanksgiving service will be at First Assembly of God Church at 4810 U.S. 81 in Vidalia at 7 p.m.

Arthur Johnson will lead the choir, and singers are still needed for the community choir.

Free refreshments will be served. This year, the Thanksgiving offering taken up at the service will go to Feed the Hungry.

The event is free and open to the public.
