Celebrate Halloween fun at Longwood

One of the many perks of being a parent is the opportunity to introduce your children to some of the same experiences you had as a child.

I can still remember that the first smell of fall in the air as a child was a clear indication that good times were fast approaching.

Football season would be in full swing and in a matter of weeks both family and friends would be gathering for Thanksgiving dinner anxiously awaiting the future arrival of Old Saint Nick.

However, Halloween was the holiday that kicked off the next few months of excitement among family and friends. The celebration of ghosts and goblins” through the years has given me some of the most amusing and entertaining anecdotes to recount with my own children.

Halloween is the holiday that promotes having fun and being silly — no matter your age.

I want to encourage everyone to be a child again by joining the festivities at the upcoming Halloween at Longwood.

Halloween at Longwood is a tradition from many years ago. The event was discontinued years ago, but has recently been brought back through the efforts of the Pilgrimage Garden Club of Natchez.

The primary goal of this event is to offer an entertaining and safe option for both children and adults wanting the ultimate Halloween carnival experience.

At the event this year, children and adults will enjoy many attractions including a frightening, but fantastic haunted house sponsored by the CYO.

Children will participate in games such as go fish, football toss, ring toss and more. Arts and crafts such as Picasso Pumpkins and spin art will also provide entertainment while the adults can tailgate and drink from the $10 bottomless cup!

There is also a scary hayride for those who dare and a non-scary for those a little less brave!

Jumpers, obstacle courses, hot dogs, nachos, sweets, soft drinks and karaoke will also fill this eventful, fun-filled, spooky night!

Halloween at Longwood will be Saturday on the grounds of Historic Longwood located at 140 Lower Woodville Road in Natchez.

Gates open at 4 in the afternoon and come to a close at 8 that evening.

The cost for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Attraction tickets may be purchased for $1 each or $25 for a wristband that includes all activities.

I look forward to seeing as many costumes as possible and believe that this event will create a Halloween memory for both parents and children and help continue the presentation of Historic Longwood.
