NATCHEZ — Adams County Emergency Management officials are asking Miss-Lou residents to prepare for severe weather today, which will include damaging winds and possible tornadoes.

Adams County and Concordia Parish were included in a hazardous weather outlook Saturday afternoon issued by the National Weather Service that stated a broken line of severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph would be moving through the area between 3 a.m. and noon today.

Adams County EMA Director Robert Bradford Sr. said he spoke with NWS in Jackson officials Saturday, who predicted that some tornadoes would also be possible from the severe weather.

“(NWS) are expecting high winds,” Bradford said. “We went over procedures to make sure Adams County will be prepared.”

Bradford said the Adams County EMA are on elevated status, and opened at 10 p.m. Saturday night to monitor the storm as it moves through the area.

“Keep in mind to have cell phones fully charged and have a plan,” Bradford said.

After the line of storms moves through in the morning, windy conditions are expected to develop over the area by the afternoon and continue through the evening.

Sustained winds nearly 20 mph with gusts of up to 30 or 40 mph are expected to continue throughout the day.

The severe weather is expected to clear by Monday, when sunny skies are forecast for the remainder of the week.
