FeRRIDAY — After accepting the coaching job at Delta Charter School this past May, Josh Loy has decided to resign as head football coach Wednesday.
Loy was presented an opportunity to enter the oil and gas industry, and said he couldn’t pass it up.
“Anybody who knows me, knows I’ve been close to getting out of coaching for the past few years, but this opportunity was different,” Loy said. “I think it’s time to go on and do something different.”
Loy coached the Trinity Saints to an MAIS Class A state championship in 2013, and had coaching stints at Cathedral High School, Adams County Christian School and Natchez in years prior. Loy coached for 11 years, and felt the daily grind of coaching was forcing him to miss out on quality time at home.
“I have young kids, and it gets harder and harder to stay in coaching when you realize you’re spending more time with other people’s kids than your own,” Loy said.
This will be Loy’s last week with Delta Charter, and though he’s venturing down a different route, he hasn’t ruled out a return to coaching some day down the road.
“I’ll never close that door, just like right now, if a great opportunity presents itself, you never know what could happen,” Loy said.
