NATCHEZ — The family of a local man is asking for help locating him after he disappeared into a wooded area outside Natchez Sunday evening.
Travis Todd, 35, was last seen near the Natchez State Park at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Todd family friend and appointed spokesperson Katie Grace Edgin said.
Todd and his wife were staying in a camper at the campground at the time.
“Travis enjoys going out and scouting the land,” Edgin said. “He likes to go out and explore, and that is simply what he was doing.”
Todd sustained a serious injury by electricity at work in July 2012, Edgin said, and may be having trouble with some of his mental faculties because of the injury.
“He is not a harm to anybody, but he is out there without his medication,” she said. “He would never leave without his phone or medication, and he had plans with his wife for later that evening. He planned on coming back.”
Todd’s rifle was found not far from his camper, Edgin said.
Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said two areas of the State Park had been searched with dogs by the end of the day Tuesday, and a third area would be searched starting at 8 a.m. today.
Todd is 6-feet-tall, weighs 230 pounds and has hazel eyes.
He wears glasses and was wearing a long-sleeved, turquoise protective sun shirt and cowboy-star style camouflage hat when he disappeared.
He also has a large scar on his face and significant burns on his entire left arm from the electrical accident. Edgin said wind also causes him serious discomfort on the burns.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Courtney Taylor said the ACSO, Adams County Search and Rescue, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks are involved in the search.
Helicopter flyovers of the area have been of limited use because the trees in the area have not dropped their leaves, and the canopy obscures the view of the ground below, Taylor said.
