The chili cookoff may have been last week, but it will be chilly again this Saturday.

Fall has arrived here in the Miss-Lou. On Saturday, the Natchez Adams County Humane Society will be hosting its second annual Run for the Rescues. So, what’s new this year? We listened to the feedback from last year and added a 10K route. Yes, you now have a choice. Runners and walkers are both welcome for the 5K, as are any leashed furry companions that you’d like to have join you. The fee is $20 to run, either distance, or $15 to walk if you preregister. If you wait until Saturday morning, the entry fee is $25 for all events.

We will start the race downtown at the corner of Madison and Canal streets, the site of the old pecan factory and this year’s RiverStock. Parking is available right there in the parking lot near the finish line. Both routes will take you through downtown and end up with you finishing the last leg along the bluff. Nothing like an early morning view of the Mississippi River to get your weekend started right. We will have water stations throughout the routes, and finish line refreshments.

All participants will receive a t-shirt and goody bag, and we will be awarding prizes by age group. We are appreciative of all the support from our sponsors.

We are hoping for another great turnout this year. Your participation and support allows me to dream bigger and bigger each year. Who knows what we can grow this into? We still have plenty of room for participants, and volunteers are always welcome. If nothing else, come on out and cheer on those that are participating. It looks to be a great day for a great cause.

As we have said before, there are a lot of really exciting things going on with the Natchez Adams County Humane Society right now. We have some long-awaited news coming soon that the whole community will cheer. We have opened a second location for our thrift store, Paws for a Caws, on Seargent S. Prentiss behind Kiser’s that is in operation every weekend; we will be rescheduling our Pedaling for Paws! cycling event on a day with no ESPN Game Day or football conflicts; and we will be having photos with Santa at the Natchez Mall.

All the proceeds from these events go directly into the operating budget, which includes the costs for the all-important life-saving transport program.

So, please, come out and join in for a lot of fun at 8 a.m. Saturday and help us Run for the Rescues.
