NATCHEZ — A win is a win, but Natchez High School head coach Lance Reed said he wasn’t happy with some things Friday.

The Bulldogs came out on top 40-30 on the road against Terry High School, but Reed said he would have liked to see more from his defense in the win.

“Ultimately, we’re happy to have a victory, but I was not pleased with our defensive effort and the execution of our schemes,” Reed said.

“We didn’t seem ready to play on the defensive side, but we did thrive on offense, made a couple of plays and scored some points. Our aim now is to put four quarters together and play a complete game.”

Reed also complimented Terry on giving his Bulldogs a good fight.

“I give a lot of credit to Terry. They came out looking good early, had a plan for us and executed,” he said.

“That’s kind of what you’re going to get from this point forward. Teams are not going to lay down and let us beat them.”

Natchez rose to 7-2 on the season, 3-2 in Region 3-6A.

Cathedral

The Green Wave rose to 8-1 on the year with a 5-0 record Region 4-1A after a 47-21 win over Bogue Chitto High School.

Quarterback Caleb Upton completed 25 of 44 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Four Green Wave receivers had good games, with Carl Hammitte leading the way after tallying 96 yards on four catches.

Semmes White had seven catches for 71 yards, Daniel Huffines added 64 yards on seven receptions and Tyler Flemming caught five passes for 73 yards.

Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said he thought his team played really well on both offense and defense.

“We’re proud of how they executed, and the offensive line especially stood out. We caught some breaks in the game, and it was a great game all the way around,” he said.

The Green Wave now need to win just one of its remaining two games to become the Region 4-1A champions.

“We’ve never won a region championship since we moved to that system seven or eight years ago. We did win in 1993 when it was the district system,” Rushing said.

ACCS and Trinity

Trinity Episcopal secured its championship in District 6-A by beating Tallulah Academy, the only other team in its district, 50-15.

Tip McKenzie had a touchdown on offense, defense and special teams for the Saints. He scored on a 61-yard punt return, a 5-yard run and a 33-yard interception return.

The Saints rose to 10-0 on the season.

Adams County Christian gave up 495 yards of total offense — all of it rushing — to Centreville Academy in a 47-14 loss to the Tigers Friday.

Quarterback Kent Yates returned after being out with a broken arm and was 5-for-13 in passing with 100 yards and an interception. Rusty Blackwell tallied 86 yards rushing on 18 carries.

The loss dropped the Rebels to 7-3 overall, 2-2 in District 5-AA.

Vidalia and Ferriday

Ferriday High School continued its late-season surge, blowing out Lake Providence High School on the road 65-8. The win put them at 5-3 on the year, 3-0 in District 2-2A.

Vidalia High School was shut out on the road 42-0 against Bunkie High School.

The Vikings are now 1-7 overall, 0-4 in District 3-3A.
