The past week was one filled with great ideas, great people and truly plenty of great news.

Let’s review a few details.

McLaurin and Morgantown elementary school students, parents and employees gave up a Saturday morning to spruce things up at their schools. This kind of community spirit is something we simply love to see.

The idea of opening a preservation school in Natchez got a bit of wind under its wings Thursday, as local leaders, state officials and an experienced expert gathered to begin talks. The proposed school would teach craftsmen the specifics of working on historic properties.

Vidalia Junior High School Gracyn Nelson is the school’s student of the year. Nelson is a top student who sets a great example for her classmates through her studies and activities.

The annual Longwood Halloween Carnival drew great crowds, giving children and families a safe place to enjoy the upcoming holiday. Thanks to those who worked so hard to make the carnival a success.

A Natchez resident was featured in a film produced recently about the Mississippi River. The kayakers who created the film shared it with our community Sunday night.

Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin is back at work and doing well after surgery related to cancer. We are thankful for his health.
