Trojans look to host playoffs with win Friday

FERRIDAY — With a win Friday, there’s a good possibility the Ferriday Trojans could host their first playoff game teh following Friday. But Ferriday head coach Cleothis Cummings isn’t spending his time crunching numbers.
“We just need to focus on Friday night right now,” Cummings said. “General Trass is a very dangerous opponent.”
What makes General Trass dangerous is quarterback A.J. Bruce, who has been the 100-meter district champion in the district for the past two years. Bruce’s offensive numbers reflect that, rushing for 1,005 yards to go along with his 1,344 passing yards and 18 total touchdowns.
“If we can limit that quarterback from making plays with his feet, I think we can be OK,” Cummings said. “Defensively, we are pretty sound in the secondary, so we need to get try and get them to beat us with his arm.”
Meanwhile, Cummings’ biggest offensive threat — Dontrell Domino — is coming off of a modest performance against Jonesboro-Hodge, a game in which he rushed for less than 70 yards. Cummings said he could tell his star running back was disappointed with his production after the 15-14 home victory.
“He just had one of those games that he’s not used to having,” Cummings said. “That’s the game of football. You could see it on his face that he was kind of down, but he’s a team player. He just wants to do everything possible that can do to help us win.”
Cummings said that might include playing Domino on defense to try and match Bruce’s speed, but Cummings wasn’t sure, as he was still piecing together the defensive game plan.
The Trojans will get an opportunity to possibly host their first playoff game Friday with a win at home against General Trass.
