Saints say no letdown

NATCHEZ — With a perfect record and a district championship, Trinity Episcopal is certainly where it wants to be at this point in the season.

But head coach David King said he doesn’t expect a letdown heading into the final game of the season.

Not only are the Saints (10-0) trying to maintain an unbeaten record, there’s extra incentive this week: having a good showing while playing in a college stadium.

Trinity will meet Glenbrook School from Minden, La., at 7 tonight on the campus of Louisiana College in Pineville, La. The game will be played at Wildcat Field on campus.

King said he discussed the possibility of the teams meeting in Pineville with the head coach at Glenbrook.

“It was a situation where we didn’t want to drive all the way to Minden and they didn’t want to drive all the way here,” King said.

“Their coach happened to know a coach on (Louisiana College’s) staff, so that’s how it worked out.”

King said he expects a good challenge from Glenbrook despite the Apaches having several key players injured.

“They’re usually a playoff team, but because of injuries they haven’t been as good this year,” King said. “They have a good coaching staff, though, so it should be a good game.”

Thanks to the Saints’ strong schedule, Trinity has enough power points to have homefield advantage through the state semifinals, should the Saints make it that far in the postseason.

“We’ll play here as long as we keep winning,” King said.

Thanks to this year’s group of seniors, King said he expects the Saints to continue playing well in their final regular-season game.

“We said since day one that we have a great group of seniors,” King said. “This is the last regular-season game they’ll ever play, so we have some built-in motivation.

“We take a business-like approach to every game we play, because we want to compete.”

Even with Glenbrook missing some key skill players, King said Glenbrook is not a team to be overlooked.

“Losing those players cost them some games, but we know they’ll be a quality opponent,” he said.
