Rebel rushers dominate Manchester defense

YAZOO CITY — Christopher Perry, Rusty Blackwell and Brandon Sanders combined for nearly 400 rushing yards and all five of Adams County Christian School’s touchdowns as the Rebels took care of Manchester Academy 35-14 Friday night.

Perry had 11 carries for 124 yards with three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion run. Blackwell finished with 130 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. Sanders added 142 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Quarterback Kent Yates only threw two passes and both of them were incomplete. Yet considering how effective ACCS (8-3) ran the ball against the Mavericks’ defense, he probably didn’t have to throw the ball at all.

“Kent did a good job managing the game for us. The running backs ran the ball extremely hard and the offensive line opened up a lot of holes,” ACCS head coach Paul Hayles said.

With the exception of a couple of breakdowns that eventually led to both of Manchester Academy’s touchdowns, Hayles said he was pleased with the effort of the Rebels’ defense.

“The kids did an excellent job executing the schemes. They did a good job,” Hayles said.

Zack Day had 13 unassisted tackles and three assists. Triston Beach had two quarterback sacks and Daniel Guedon picked off two passes.

ACCS will need that kind of an effort next Friday night in the first round of the MAIS Class AA South State Playoffs when the Rebels play at defending state champion and top-ranked Brookhaven Academy.
