PINEVILLE, La. — Trinity Episcopal has won three Class A state championships under head coach David King. In each of those seasons — 2001, 2006 and 2009 — the Saints had at least two losses.

But after Trinity Episcopal took care of Glenbrook 61-40 Friday night at Wildcat Field on the campus of Louisiana College, it did something new — have an undefeated regular season.

Trinity Episcopal will begin defense of its state title next Friday with a No. 1 ranking and an 11-0 record.

Several Saints players found their way into the end zone mostly by rushing and receiving. The only non-offensive touchdown they had was when Tanner Cage blocked a punt, picked up the ball and returned it 55 yards with 3:58 to go in the second quarter. And that gave them a 48-22 lead.

Speaking of special teams, Glenbrook (5-5) twice scored on kickoff returns. Beaux Gipson returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown just 12 seconds into the game. And after Cage’s blocked punt return for a touchdown, William Thompson brought back the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a score.

Yet the problem for the Apaches was they could not slow down Trinity’s vast array of offensive weapons.

Kent King had 21 carries for 184 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown was a 2-yard run with 10:46 remaining in the first quarter to tie the game at 6-6. His second score, an 8-yard run with 9:54 to go in the third quarter, put Trinity ahead 61-28.

Tip McKenzie had four carries for 88 yards and his 64-yard touchdown run with 8:25 left in the first quarter put the Saints ahead for good. He also caught three catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Givonni Dent threw three touchdown passes and 120 yards on 7-of-10 passing to go along with 55 yards rushing and one touchdown on four carries. Jake Winston had a 10-yard touchdown reception.

Daniel Dunaway had four carries for 57 yards and a touchdown as well as three catches for 25 yards.

In addition to his opening kickoff TD return, Gipson completed 9 of 21 passes for 191 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run.
