FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School will face a familiar foe Friday for the LHSAA District 2-2A crown.

The Trojans (6-3, 4-0) will travel to Farmerville, La., to take on Farmerville High School (8-1, 4-0). Ferriday lost to the Farmers twice last year, 44-24 in the regular season and 21-0 in the playoffs.

Ferriday head coach Chad Harkins said the Farmers would rely on a strong rushing game on offense.

“They’re really good,” Harkins said. “They’re really big and physical. They’re also fast, and they like to run the ball. They’ll throw it a little bit too, but mainly they’re a run-oriented team.”

Even though the Trojans’ defense has faced several formidable rushing games, Harkins said the Farmers’ running game is very formidable in its own right.

“They’re the best we’ve seen so far this year,” Harkins said.

And the best defense for the Trojans is a good offense that will hopefully keep the Farmers’ offense off the field, Harkins said.

“We’re going to need to be able to move the ball ourselves on offense and eat clock,” Harkins said. “We have to keep the ball out of their hands.

“The less they have the ball, the less points they put on the board. We’d like to keep it that way.”

With a playoff spot already secured for the Trojans, Harkins said a district championship is still important going into the postseason.

“We probably have home field advantage either way. This would give us a better seed, and that’s what we’re looking for,” he said.

The Trojans will no doubt face a hostile environment on the road, but Harkins said he isn’t worried about it getting in his players’ heads.

“They’ve played some big games already. Every district game we’ve play has been important,” Harkins said.

“This is the time we want to be hitting on all cylinders. We know the importance of that, and we look to come out and play accordingly.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday at Farmerville.
