Block defeats Logansport despite coach’s tragedy

Jonesville — Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. walked into school Friday morning just as he would every other morning, with a smile and positive attitude.
But the head coach was dealing with a horrific tragedy from the night before, a house fire that claimed everything his family owned.
“We lost everything (Thursday night)” he said. “But I had to stay focused. I came to school (Friday), and I tried to keep the day as normal as possible for the kids. We had to perform under pressure no matter the situation.”
And it was Vault’s positive attitude that led the Bears to their second victory of the season tonight, 38-19 against Logansport.
“It was emotional,” Vault said. “The kids came out and played well. We played much better than we did last week and ran the ball well, while putting together some good drives.”
The Bears are now 2-5, and Vault said he is seeing his team getting better each week.
“I think we are,” Vault said. “I always try to stay positive because we are getting better, and the kids are feeling confident.”
It was the second best showing for the Block defense this season, holding Logansport to just 19 points.
“They hit us with a few passes, but overall, they played really good and tackled well,” said Vault of his defense.
Next up for Block is a district clash with a struggling Northwood team out of Lena. The Gators are 1-6 on the year.
