Phatwater continued on without race

We won. See the article from Sept. 25, 2014, “Annual Phatwater Kayak Challenge cancelled.” On Oct. 11 at 8 a.m., Dwain Traylor and I launched our 17-foot Grumman Canoe from the nice facilities maintained at Port Gibson by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. (Special thanks to Colonel Adcock for that.)

A little over 8-and-a-half hours and 42 miles later, we disembarked in Natchez.

We were greeted by wonderful supporters and a champagne bath (provided by myself, the rear oarsman).

On top of that, and of a semi-official nature, we were even greeted by the indomitable Peggy Pierrepont who, as a member of Adams County Search and Rescue, expressed her concern for our safety.

To sum things up, we left Port Gibson at the appointed time and on the appointed date for the race, and we were the first ones to arrive in Natchez who took on that challenge.

Again, in short, we won.
