Fall has arrived, we’ve set our clocks back, and there’s no stopping the holiday train that soon will pull into Natchez.

But we’ve certainly had some great days and some great news to enjoy in early November.

Let’s review a few good headlines from last week:

– Ferriday Junior High School student Alexus Calhoun has her eyes on Thanksgiving for sure. Calhoun was chosen to be a cheerleader in the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade. But in addition to her great smile and peppy demeanor on the sidelines, Calhoun is a model student in the classroom, her teachers said.

– The General Services Administration is nearing the final stages of righting a decades-old wrong. The names of black World War I veterans from Adams County have been identified and will soon be added to the plaques outside the federal courthouse.

– Local Special Olympics athletes enjoyed a little applause, a good time and even a bit of dancing Thursday night at a banquet in their honor. We are lucky to have these true stars as a part of our community.

– Children and adults alike had a great time Saturday at the Holy Family Fall Festival and the Fall Fun Day to benefit the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. Both events were fundraisers for worthy causes coordinated largely by volunteers.

Great days like these remind us just how lucky we are to live in the Miss-Lou.
