Investing in equipment is wise move

Adams County Supervisors seem to be making some wise decisions on roadway equipment purchases.
A year or so ago, the county purchased a “pothole patcher” to help it make basic repairs to roads as problems first developed.
Last week, the county announced plans to purchase a pavement-sealing machine, a device intended to seal cracks and create a protective seal on the surface of a roadway.
Both purchases seem reasonable, both in their costs and in their common sense.
Each of the devices aims to extend the life of the pavement and provide a better, more economically prudent use of taxpayer funds.
We’re certainly not road maintenance experts, however, we applaud what appears to be a good investment in the future of our community’s infrastructure.
At some point, supervisors — perhaps in conjunction with the City of Natchez — should consider whether or not it would be wise to purchase all of the equipment necessary to repave its own roadways.
Logic would indicate it’s worth studying, particularly if the investment would eventually save taxpayer dollars.
We continue to urge city and county leaders to explore ways to partner together, providing more bang for taxpayers’ buck.
Although we sometimes think of things from a city vs. county perspective, this community is much more of one mind, one spirit and one pocketbook than perhaps any other place in the state.
Wise decisions about investing taxpayer dollars could only further benefit the community.
