NATCHEZ — After hosting a successful golf tournament last month, the Cathedral Fall Festival is hoping to do the same again this month with a tennis tournament.
“We enjoy helping out the school any way we can,” said co-chairman of the event Mark Carter. “Fundraisers are absolutely vital to the continued success of the school. It has given a lot to us and we want to give back to them.”
The event is a doubles tournament featuring a men’s, women’s and mixed doubles division for ages 18 and up and another for ages 65 and over.
There will also be an adult/junior competition on Sunday afternoon.
“It’ll be where a kid partners with an adult and we also have three different divisions for that,” said Carter of the Sunday competition.
The adult division play will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and play through the day, while the adult/junior doubles tournament is slated for a noon start Sunday.
The registration fee for adults is $30 per person per event and the adult/junior event is $20 per team.
Carter said he is looking for more participants and that the divisions are filling up nicely.
“We just want everyone to have a good time,” he said. “We would like to have at least 50 players for the adult division. Last year, we were pleasantly surprised, and hopefully, we can grow it some more this year.”
